Indicating the stages in the melting of icefloes

During a kayak trip at Pond Inlet on northern Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic, I was impressed by the diversity in form and colour of the ice in the smaller chunks broken from icebergs which I was able to approach closely without danger due to their small size. The diverging lines on this piece are one-time water-lines which constantly change as the icefloe melts and loses equilibrium yet again. A hole has been worn in the ice by sea-water splashing up and eroding from both sides.
