Great Blue Whale

Chestnut & Yellow Cedar

4' 8" in length

This is a living creature of superlatives ie. longest, loudest & heaviest (with throat extended it can contain over 1000 tons of water). Known to the whalers-of-old as the 'sulphur-bottom' because of its yellow underside caused by diatoms in the antarctic waters where feeds on krill (small shrimp-like creatures) at certain times of the year.

Chestnut has a very distinct grain. The flipper is made of yellow cedar to complement the light-coloured sapwood evident on the body.
