Beluga Whale
Walrus ivory/stone/black walnut
6" in length
Sold!
The beluga whale has the ability to articulate it's neck, unlike many other whales that have some vertebra fused together.
This walrus ivory, from hunts regulated by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, provides a secondary resource and hence cash for Inuit hunters. Note the translucent, mottled appearance of the tailstock indicative of walrus ivory.
